2nd Sunday after Pentecost (6/10/07) Saint Paul, in Galatians, and Martin Luther in the Reformation both defied the organized institution to preach the gospel â and yet even today a Law mentality still predominates. Lutherans overcome that not by giving up on the church, or making up their own church, but by embracing the paradox of authority and love. Even the Bible is not above the Gospel. As Luther said, "My opponents quote scripture against Christ; I will quote Christ against Scripture." We need to understand the needs of those who are to be saved; the drowning need a life preserver, not an anchor. We need to be radical Lutherans, to proclaim Godâs love to all.
